I’m very proud of the work we did to showcase the impact of the NaliniKIDS program in video format —watch for yourself and read on to learn more about the process.
In less than 4 minutes, this video provides an overview of the program experience from the organization’s perspective, supported by the anecdotes from the students themselves.
In 3 minutes, viewers hear from students, teachers, and principal about the impact NaliniKIDS has had on their school community.
BACKGROUND
NaliniKIDS is an education nonprofit focused on creating PK–12 programs that pair movement with reflection. This concept, as well as the curriculum, is new to many teachers. We found some teachers weren’t invested in the program and/or didn’t understand how to bring it in to their classroom routines.
THE IDEA
To help teachers imagine how the program could come to life in their classrooms, we decided to create videos that showed the program in action. We wanted to explain the components of the program in an engaging way that would get educators excited about it.
WHAT I DID
- Collaborated with cameraman/editor and producer to capture footage and interview students and faculty.
- After watching what we shot, I developed two narratives:
- The first explained the elements of the program and how it benefits students, both from the organization’s perspective and from the students themselves.
- The second video wasn’t originally part of the plan. But while reviewing footage, a compelling storyline emerged for me and I had to share it. This video shows the positive impact the program has on students and get teachers excited to teach it.
- The first explained the elements of the program and how it benefits students, both from the organization’s perspective and from the students themselves.
- Wrote voiceover video script and selected clips to support each storyline.
- Provided feedback during final rounds of editing.
HOW THE VIDEOS ARE USED
The “The NaliniKIDS Classroom Experience,” which demonstrates how the program benefits students, both from the organization’s perspective and from the students themselves, was used in teacher trainings. It has done a great job helping teachers understand how the program is meant to be executed and why the program succeeds. Because it was such an effective way to explain a complex program, the video also gets used in marketing and fundraising efforts.
The bonus video, “Step Inside a NaliniKIDS Elementary School,” is now used to begin teacher trainings. Because the final product stirred up so many positive emotions from viewers and led to countless smiles, we knew it would be a great way to invest teachers in the program.
